Understanding the Volvo Duo Prop: Type A
Obtaining an ideal match of propeller and motor involves far more than simply making sure that you have the correct diameter and pitch figures. Propellers are far more complex than two specifications can capture, and they are one of the most vital components to any motorized watercraft. After all, the propeller largely determines whether the engine’s power – and fuel consumption – will be directed into the production of propulsion, or whether power and fuel will simply be wasted.
All Volvo Penta propellers are designed to be perfect complements to certain boating tasks. Volvo Penta Duo Props Type A are specially engineered to produce exemplary grip on the water, which leads to a high level of fuel utilization. Volvo Duo Props Type A work with diesel engines and are constructed of sturdy aluminum, which of course has inherent advantages in that aluminum is a material that does not rust.
What is a Duo Prop?
Those new to the sport of leisure boating may not have heard of a “duo prop,” but the term is self-explanatory. Duo props are propeller arrangements that actually have two propellers. Volvo Penta Duo Props classed as Type A feature a design that is unique in the boat propeller industry: a three-bladed propeller in the front of the unit and a propeller with four blades in the rear. This combination is what gives these propellers such an ability to grip the water and deliver high-level performance.
