Propellers for Powerboats

DJX Propellers

0.61 EAR -- 12"-21" Diameter Range

The DJX is an advancement of the well known Dyna Quad and Dyna jet propeller series. These designs have been adjusted to be more suitable for restricted tip, heavily loaded clearance applications. Every "X" series propeller is CNC machined to ensure an extremely precise and replicable product.

DQX Propellers

0.735 EAR -- 17"-22" Diameter Range

0.81 E.A.R. -- 23"-32" Diameter Range

The DQX is an advancement of the well known Dyna Quad and Dyna jet propeller series. These designs have been adjusted to be more suitable for restricted tip, heavily loaded clearance applications. Every "X" series propeller is CNC machined to ensure an extremely precise and replicable product.

Dyna Jet Propellers

The three blade Dyna Jet ranks among the world's most loved propellers for medium sized boats (typically through 40'), offering unrivalled performance and speed. It is meant for both pleasure boat owners, who desire a smooth operation, and professional fishing boats to reach their intended destination in a timely manner. All Dyna jet propellers are painstakingly hand made and checked to satisfy modern performance standards.

Dyna Quad Propellers

This design is as loved as the Dyna jet. However, mainly, it is used for vessels bigger than 40' needing additional blade area, because of the extra thrust and weight requirements. The four bladed design facilitates smoothness, fantastic manoeuvrability, as well as the "tug" and speed of a three bladed propeller.

M500 Propellers

Often, the M500 is used for constructing new boats, along with propeller upgrades and re powers. It is the propeller of choice for installations where dead wood, heavy vee struts, or additional hull appendages agitate the flow of water to the propeller. Furthermore, this propeller is used whenever resonance produced vibration is an issue.

The M Series

DJ355 Propellers

The three blade DJ355 provides the most value for small inboard crafts, as it is smooth, dependable and quiet. This constant pitch, skewed, zero offset line is low maintenance. However, it fulfils the criteria for performance design for many applications.

DQ469 Propellers

The four blade DQ469 is exactly the same design of blade as the DJ355. For specific applications, the four blade might be the best option. It increases thrust and reduces vibration and sound.

Propellers for Sailboats

The Sailer 2

This fixed pitch propeller maximizes sailing speeds. It provides minimum drag when sailing. Also, it is powerful enough to transport you, once the wind ceases to blow.

The Sailer 3

This is the preferred propeller for cruising sailboats. It provides exceptional dock handling manoeuvrability. Also, it is powerful enough to sustain speed in waves and wind whenever the weather turns unpleasant, with minimum drag increases under sail.

The MP3

For over 30' cruisers, MP Three propellers have blade areas to do the job. The thrust generated provides cruising performance, after the sails come down. Also, it provides great manoeuvrability whilst docking.

Towboat and ski Propellers

The Ambush Four Blade

The Ambush towboat propeller is completely CNC machined for optimum consistency and precision. Initially, CNC machine technology was utilized for manufacturing bespoke propellers for big yachts. Here, design geometry is complicated and precision is crucial.

The Dyna jet Cupped Three Blade

This propeller is built for fast, high powered bottom boats. It is comprised of aluminum, bronze, nickel alloy (NiBrAl), which offers less flex, additional strength and increased durability. This cups the blade's trailing edges for more speed.

Michigan Wheel Inboard Propellers: DJX, DQX, and M-500 Series

The public at large is most familiar with outboard propellers, but as boating enthusiasts know, inboard propellers are another popular choice for watercraft propulsion.  Michigan Wheel makes inboard propellers with three, four, and five blades.

The DJX and DQX Lines

Michigan Wheel inboard props in this series have three blades.  An outgrowth of the Dyna-Quad and Dyna-Jet propeller lines, DJX propellers are designed for situations where there may be limited clearance for the tip.  They also work well with high loads.  Propellers in this line have diameters ranging from 12 to 21 inches.  Some propellers in this series have blades with no cup, while others exhibit all the common amounts of cupping boating enthusiasts look for.

Michigan Wheel inboard props in the DQX series have four blades and range from 17 to 32 inches in diameter.

The M-500 Line

Many boaters prefer the M-500 inboard propeller from Michigan Wheel.  With five blades and diameters ranging from 22 to 44 inches, these inboard props provide a large blade area even in the smaller propellers in the line.  This allows for high performance, even for boats that cannot accommodate large propellers due to clearance issues.

The M-500 is particularly useful in certain situations where water flow towards the propeller is disrupted by the presence of obstructions such as hull appendages, dead wood, or large and / or heavy v-struts.  Indeed, in these situations the M-500 is one of the most popular choices available.  It also helps to reduce engine vibration, which many boaters consider its most advantageous feature.

Propellers May Drag When Boats Use Wind Propulsion

When a watercraft has no other propulsion system except for inboard boat propellers, the issue of drag under sail simply does not come up.  Sailboat enthusiasts, however, know that it can be a real and pressing issue when they are using their sails to power the watercraft.

Why sailboats have propellers

Some might question why sailboats would have inboard boat props or other sailboat propellers in the first place.  They are certainly not necessary in the strictest sense of the word.  The trouble with using wind as a sole propulsion system, however, is that sometimes the seas are perfectly calm.  Many sailboat owners prefer to equip their boat with a propeller so that they need not worry about a lack of wind.  Indeed, in case of an emergency on board it can be critical to have an alternate means of propulsion. Sailor 2, Sailor 3 and MP3 boat propellers are ideal for this purpose.

The issue of drag under sail

When sails are billowing, however, motorized propulsion will not be necessary.  Boaters are divided as to the best way of dealing with the drag that an outboard motor can produce on a wind-driven sailboat.  Some believe that the best procedure is to lock the propeller into reverse any time the engine is switched off.  This will keep the propeller from being able to spin freely in the water.

Other boaters insist that it is best to allow propellers to spin while the boat it under sail.  To accomplish this, the engine should be switched into neutral gear.
